All Dorms and Apartments have a Campus Telephone number assigned to them. Depending on the number of beds, there are that number of Voicemail Accounts assigned to that telephone number. The Voicemail System calls these accounts "Mailbox Numbers", and they are numbered 1 through 5 (depending on occupancy), then the 4-digit campus number. For example, a residence suite with four bedrooms and telephone number 731-881-4321 would have Voicemail Mailboxes numbered 14321, 24321, 34321 and 44321.
If you have a message waiting, your dialtone will "stutter" on and off a few times before going to the normal steady tone. If you never set up an account, call the Help Desk at 7900, give them your name and campus number and request the Voicemail account for it be reset. Then you can personalize the account with your own Security Code and Greeting.
Make it a habit to check for the stutter when you first come in. Some residential phones go "off-hook" by themselves to check for this stutter and then provide an indication for you.
Personalizing a Reset Voicemail Account
Once you've received notification your account is ready for setup, call 7590. You'll be asked for a Mailbox Number. If you're the first tenant in your residence to set up an account, go ahead and use 1 plus the 4-digit campus number. Then you'll be asked for a Security Code. Enter 0000 (four zeros). The system will walk you through the steps to change the Security Code to something you'll remember, then record your Name, then record your Greeting.
Dialing in to Voicemail to check for Messages
Normally you check for messages from your residence phone itself. Call 7590 and enter your Mailbox Number and Security Code. The system will prompt you through the steps to check. Dialing in also gives you full access to your account.
If you need to check from a campus phone other than the one your account is on, dial 7590. If it asks for a Security Code, press "star" and it will play the Main Menu default announcement "If you know the extension". Press "pound" and it will ask for a Mailbox Number. After the Mailbox Number is entered, it will ask for your Security Code.
If you check from an off-campus phone, or a campus phone without a Voicemail Account, you will start at that Main Menu Default Announcement "If you know the extension", so you just need to enter the Mailbox Number, then the Security Code.
